Centre for Excellence and Research (CER)

The Centre for Excellence and Research is a premier academic and research unit of SHD Research Foundation committed to advance high-impact, interdisciplinary research in three pivotal domains: Health, Environment, and Law and Justice. With a strong emphasis on scientific inquiry, evidence-based policymaking, and sustainable development, the Centre aims to address pressing national and global challenges, shape public policies, and promote innovative solutions that enhance human well-being and environmental integrity. Structured around three specialized departments—the Department of Occupational Health and Care, the Department of Environment and Sustainability, and the Department of Law, Labour, and Justice—the Centre fosters rigorous scholarship and collaborative research, ensuring its work aligns with internationally recognized scientific and ethical standards.
The Department of Occupational Health and Care is dedicated to understanding and mitigating occupational health hazards, preventing workplace injuries, and fostering safe and sustainable working conditions. Its research agenda aligns with the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), ensuring compliance with global best practices in occupational safety and workforce well-being. The department’s work extends to policy interventions aimed at strengthening workplace safety standards, minimizing workers' exposure to occupational risks, and formulating strategies for reducing long-term health implications across diverse industries.
The Department of Environment and Sustainability conducts cutting-edge research on environmental sustainability, evaluating the impact of human activities on ecosystems, climate change, and natural resource management. In alignment with leading global organizations such as the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the department formulates evidence-based strategies to combat environmental degradation, promote climate resilience, and advance ecological conservation efforts. Its research and policy frameworks are designed to support sustainable development goals (SDGs) and ensure responsible environmental governance, both in India and globally.
The Department of Law, Labour, and Justice is committed to advancing labour rights, equitable wages, and ethical labour market policies, with a focus on the impact of globalization on employment conditions. Its research framework is guided by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and other globally recognized legal and ethical standards, ensuring a comprehensive approach to labour laws, human rights, and social justice. Beyond labour issues, the department also undertakes in-depth studies on constitutional matters, legal interpretations, and justice-related concerns spanning communities, industries, and diverse socio-political contexts.
Collaborative Learning
The Centre for Excellence and Research functions as a hub of innovation and knowledge exchange, collaborating with leading national and international research institutions, governmental agencies, and non-governmental organizations. With an emphasis on policy-driven research, capacity-building initiatives, and cross-sectoral partnerships, the Centre plays a crucial role in shaping scientific discourse, legal frameworks, and environmental governance, ensuring its contributions have a lasting impact on public policy and global sustainability efforts.
By integrating scientific expertise with policy-oriented research, the Centre remains at the forefront of scholarly inquiry and applied solutions, addressing the most critical challenges of our time in health, labour, and environmental sustainability.
