Project Title: Understanding South Asia and Africa

This project examines the multifaceted relationships between South Asian and African nations, focusing on diplomacy, internal conflicts, bilateral relations, trade, and cultural exchanges. Both regions share historical ties rooted in anti-colonial struggles, migration, and solidarity movements. Contemporary relations have evolved through diplomatic partnerships, such as the India-Africa Forum Summit, which strengthens political and economic collaborations.

Trade remains a cornerstone, with bilateral trade between India and Africa exceeding $89 billion in 2022, driven by energy, infrastructure, and technology sectors. Cultural exchanges, facilitated through diasporic communities and shared traditions, have further enhanced mutual understanding. However, internal conflicts and political instability in both regions pose challenges to sustained cooperation.

This study explores the potential for enhanced partnerships in areas like renewable energy, education, and healthcare while addressing common challenges such as education, technology, poverty and inequality. By analyzing these dynamics, the project aims to provide insights into fostering sustainable and equitable ties between South Asia and Africa.
